Changing the food system in Brooklyn, neighborhood by neighborhood

Community Organizing Resources

At our November 30 Skillshare Michael Paone shared his ideas about balancing organizing with other life demands and Nicole Taylor ran a discussion about tips for on-the-ground organizing. The following are materials from the Skillshare.

Props to the Research Center for Leadership in Action (RCLA) at NYU Wagner for the resource list.

On-the-ground organizing -- what BFC members recommend:

Make sure there's food
Build a sense of community
Incentive
Multiple points of contact (outreach)
Share the organizing (tasks, etc)
Taking time to build relationships
Not assuming what people's needs are
Always have next steps
Know your community (speak the language)
Activities/projects to bring people together (no jargon)

Adding more social interaction to commerce (farmers markets)
