What's the most important information to post on your Neighborhood Group or Working Group pages?
1. Main contact person: This doesn't have to be the group leader -- just one or two people newcomers can contact if they want to join your group in real life. Please remember to include an email address or phone number.
2. Next meeting: Have you picked out the date for your next group meeting or event? Be sure to post it in the main text box of your group page, then post it on the main calendar.
3. Current projects: Any projects or events your group is working on, however sketchy the details. This gives newcomers an idea of what your group's priorities and areas of focus are. You'll want to post this in your group's text box as well.
Note: you must be a group page administrator to make these changes. Not sure if you're a group administrator? Want to be your group's administrator? Need a tutorial? Contact me at info@brooklynfoodcoalition.org.
Something to "Like"
Here's something you might like — we've just added Like Buttons to photos, videos, and blog posts. With the site Like Button, everything that you like gets added to your "My Likes" page. You can also Like something right from the Main Page. And with the Facebook Like button, now anyone with a Facebook account can like what they see and share it with their friends.
Hope you enjoy this new feature! Get Liking!
Stay on Topic
This is a food-centric community, so please make sure whatever content you contribute here has something to do with food. This is a great place to share information about events and resources having to do with food and urban gardening -- whether it's a fundraiser, a volunteer day, or a food documentary.
But we do ask that you not post events and information that strays from that focus (food! gardening!) no matter how useful or noble. If you're ever in doubt just ask: info@brooklynfoodcoalition.org
Good Food Sources Page
The Good Food Sources page has been reorganized to make it easier to navigate. Click on any of the links to find out about CSAs, farmer's markets, and more. We are working on ways we can include more Brooklyn-based food businesses that share our values.
Volunteer
This morning I'm pleased to introduce our new Volunteer feature. If you're interested in volunteering for the Brooklyn Food Coalition or for another great organization with a similar mission log into our new Volunteer database.
In the coming months we'll be posting more opportunities, including work days at Brooklyn urban farms. Keep checking! And if you're a Park Slope Food Coop member please be sure to read our FTOP work credit policy.
Many thanks to Eric Brelsford for creating this shiny new tool for us!
Discussions vs. Comments
Each group page includes two main ways you can share links, info, and ideas.
1. Discussion: If you post something in this section people can reply to it. Post things here if you'd like to start a conversation with your group.
2. Comment Wall: This is for one-way communication. You cannot reply directly to something posted on the comment wall, but it's useful for sending out announcements.
See the Food Policy group for some examples of both.
Use The Drop-Down Menus
Looking for something? Hover your mouse over the titles in the top navigation bar (Home, Who We Are, What We Do...). Pause and you'll see a menu of pages appear below each heading.
If your browser is slow it may take some time for the drop-down menus to appear. You may want to try different browsers; Firefox works best for me.
As always, feel free to email any questions you have: info@brooklynfoodcoalition.org
Post An Event
Did you know you can add events to the calendar yourself? Go to the calendar page and look over to the upper right-hand corner where you'll see + Add.
Click on that button and fill in all the required fields in the form: title, date, time, location, description, and event type. If you don't have all the information yet write "TBD." You can go back and edit your event later when you have more details.
Kinds of events we encourage you to add:
